JEM-Hurricane Rim-Goulds Rim (JHG)
Aproximately 25mi. in length the combination of these trails makes for a great fullday mountain bike ride for most people. This ride is strenuous because of it’s length and only moderately technical. Most people have a new found love for the desert landscape after this ride as the views are tremendous and the riding is miles and miles of sculpted singletrack.
Days Events
The Days Events
- All of the benefits of the JEM trail and then some in a longer more demanding version.
- The Hurricane Rim Trail has awesome plate rock riding that requires intermediate bike handling skills to negotiate. We can work on the skills necessary as we go. This trail also serves up a healthy dose of elevation gain and loss with zippy singletrack downhill sections, and uphill to match.
- The Goulds Rim Trail is a desert sagebrush lined rim that heads deep into the outback to connect the Hurricane and Jem Trails.
- A truly awesome desert singletrack experience. Vast vistas towards Zion National Park line the horizon for much of this trip.
- There are serious and potentially deadly drop offs that line the end of this trail. Your guide will assess the groups riding abilites and has the right to either have folks walk their bikes or circumnavigate the potentially dangerous sections of the ride.
- There are some nice swimming holes at the end of this ride. A benefit of driving your own car, is that you can enjoy the river at the end of the ride.
- Our trips are set up as privately guided trips. This means that you will not be stuck with others who might impact your experience adversely. Please let us know if you would like the option of of an open group trip to save money.
- There are a few riding options to make this ride easy or harder. We can also shorten the ride and make it easier by doing this as a one way primarily downhill ride.
- All riders can benefit from proper body mechanics, weight distribution and braking techniques. Our guides are well versed in all riding techniques and can assist with increasing your skill level.
- All riders will be briefed on the mechanisms and components of their state of the art mountain bike before we start to ride.
- Your guide is also well versed on the local area and can interpret much of what you see. If you have a question-just ask.

FAQ
FAQ - JEM Trail
- How good a shape do I need to be in?
- Fitness definitely helps on this ride this ride. We can make adjustment to the length of the ride as we go if we need to. We might push you a little further than you would go on your own- but this is not boot camp - unless you want it to be.
- I don’t consider myself a technical rider, will I have fun on this trip?
- If you like to push yourself and try new things, and have a positive attitude you’ll have a great time. You’ll be a better rider at the end of this trip.
- What is singletrack?
- Singletrack is a term used to descripe a single line of trail that is just wider than the bike itself. These trail usually get created by mountain bikes or are old stock trails now used as bike trails. Singletrack differs from doubletrack in that doubletracks are usually created by cars or atvs. Grass or weeds usually stick up between each of the two tracks.
- What is douletrack?
- Doubletrack differs from singletrack in that doubletracks are usually created by cars or atvs. Grass or weeds usually stick up between each of the two tracks.
- What is a fire road.
- A fire road is a term used to describe dirt roads. Often these dirt roads in the west were originally used as a means to get fire trucks into remote areas.
- Should I keep my trip as a private trip?
- We allow people to open teir trip up for others to join. If others join it lowers the cost for everyone. If you are worried about holding others back or vice versa, or you don’t want to go riding with kids, you should elect to keep your trip private. We do try to screen each group to see if they are compatible.
- Can I bring my own bike and does it cost less?
- Yes to both. the price drops by $20 if you bring your own bike.
- Can I ship my bike to you and have you guys assemble it for the trip?
- Yes you can- we do charge for this service.
- Can I bring my own pedals or gravity dropper seatpost, or specail comfy seat?
- Yes you can- no charge for this service.
- Can you guarantee my safety?
- Not necessarily. Biking has inherent risks and dangers. Unlike canyoneering or climbing we do not have a safetyline on you while biking you are free to make decisions at will. You can ride off of precipices, into trees and cactus, into others and over the bars. We as guides will alert you to hazards and instruct on technique but the end results are in your hands. We do advise that you ride within your abilities and we will help define your abilities. Part of the joy of mountian biking is trying new things and pushing yourself on new terrain. That said, it is also a good idea to return from your vacation in one piece with all of your teeth still in your mouth.
