Providing panoramic views of the towering monoliths of nearby Zion, guided mountain biking tours of Gooseberry Mesa provide plenty of options, depending on each biker’s skill level. In addition to this popular trail, we also offer tours of the JEM Trail and the Navajo Lake Loop Trail. Named after its trailblazers, John, Ellen and Mike, the JEM Trail is an easy cliff-side ride along the Virgin River’s sagebrush-lined rim west of the town of Virgin. Located just over an hour north of our base camp at Zion Mountain Resort, the Navajo Lake Loop Trail boasts alpine scenery instead of a desert landscape. The11.5-mile packed dirt trail meanders through lava flows, meadows of wildflowers and stands of fir, pine and aspen. The trail, which circles Navajo Lake, provides a respite from the Zion area’s hot summer temperatures. Contact us today to schedule one of these guided bike trips!
For those wishing to bike on a road or trail by themselves, the Zion area is full of options. One route the whole family can enjoy is the ride to the ghost town of Grafton, famous for being part of the backdrop for the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” You will enjoy exploring the town’s remnants, including a church, home and cemetery, while viewing some of Zion’s towering formations on the northern horizon. You can access the road to Grafton in the middle of the town of Rockville. Other enjoyable Zion area bike trips along established roads include the Kolob Terrace Road, Smithsonian Butte Scenic Backway, North Fork Road, and the Smith Mesa Loop. Other designated bike paths in Zion’s outskirts include the Hurricane Rim Trail, Honeymoon Trail, and the Rockville Bench Trail.
